Applicants seeking a licence to purchase a weapon need to be able to convince the licencing authorities that they have a consistent and reasonable need for a firearm, whether for their employment, their sport, or their leisure activities (including collections or research).

This medical evaluation is carried out by our experienced general practitioner who is registered with the GMC. At the Medical 4 Firearms we have completed medical records for hundred of satisfied customers.

It is not necessary to schedule a personal visit in order to finish this medical. Your application needs to be evaluated by a physician who is registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) and has access to either your full medical records (for new applications) or medical records that include the history of your condition over the past 20 years (Renewal applications).

Please be aware that in order to apply for any positions in Wales, you will need to provide a complete set of medical records.

It is the responsibility of the applicant to make arrangements with a suitable doctor to provide information about their medical history to the police firearms licencing department.

If the medical information is being provided to the police by a doctor who is not the applicant’s GP, then the doctor must obtain the applicant’s complete medical record directly from the applicant’s GP practice rather than going through the applicant themselves.

When you apply for new benefits, we need your complete medical history, including any Lloyd George cards you may have. In most cases, just the most recent ten years’ worth of medical records are required for renewal applications. Please be aware that in order to apply for any positions in Wales, you will need to provide a complete set of medical records.

When a person applies to the police for a firearm or shotgun certificate or to be registered as a firearms dealer, the applicant is required to provide information that will confirm whether or not the applicant has been diagnosed or treated for any relevant medical condition that could affect their ability to safely possess a firearm.

This information is used to determine whether or not the applicant is currently suffering from or has previously suffered from any relevant medical condition. Verification of a person’s medical history obtained from a GMC-registered doctor is part of this procedure (Usually your GP). Doctor at Medical 4 firearms is able to provide prompt, effective, and cost-effective assistance with this procedure.

In order to assist the authorities in determining whether you currently have or have previously had any Relevant Medical Conditions that could influence your ability to possess a firearm in a safe manner, a doctor will review your complete medical records as part of the Firearm Medical / Shotgun licence Review. This review takes place in conjunction with the shotgun licence review.

The following are examples of relevant medical conditions:

  • acute stress reaction, often known as an acute response to the stress brought on by a traumatic event,
  • among them being post-traumatic stress disorder
  • thoughts of suicide or self-harm or harming others or oneself
  • either melancholy or anxiousness
  • dementia
  • manic episode, manic-depressive disease, or a psychotic illness
  • a personality disorder
  • a neurological disorder such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, epilepsy, etc.
  • alcohol or drug abuse

any other mental or physical illness, or combination of disorders, that may compromise an individual’s ability to safely possess a weapon or shotgun.

The above list is not meant to be comprehensive in any way. Any other mental or physical ailment that may impact the individual’s ability to safely own a firearm or shotgun, either now or in the future, should be taken into consideration by the individual’s doctor.

Where a patient has been subject to the provisions of the Mental Health Act 1983 and/or the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003, see also sections 3.34 and 3.35.

A thorough examination of your medical history is going to be performed by us. Any objects that may possibly satisfy the criteria stated by the Police will be included in the report, and as part of the procedure, a firearms officer will typically interview you.

The police have the ethical and legal obligation to keep an eye on those who legally possess forearms or shotguns.

In the end, the decision about whether or not to issue a Firearms / Shotgun licence rests solely in the hands of the police department.

Our function is to just deliver reports of medical facts (not views), and we have no personal participation or influence over the choice that is ultimately made.

Yes – Medical 4 Firearms provides the latest format of medical certificates as per the Home Office and Firearm Department template guidance and recommendations.

If you choose to cancel your application for whatever reason, we do not provide a refund in these cases. As soon as you have paid, your medical notes are requested in writing to your GP practice. This cannot be undone.

The Home Office statutory guidance for Chief Officers of Police states that when our medical certificate is being provided to the Police firearms department, our doctor MUST have received the patient’s medical notes direct from the GP practice and not via the applicant. This is simply to ensure that the medical notes that the verifying doctor at Medicals4Firearms receives are authentic, complete and unmodified. However, in some circumstances we can accept medical notes in your possession as long as the following is adhered to:

Hard Copy Medical Notes:
